Hi Melissa73
welcome to the Raymond forum
You may like to try Recuva
Accidentally deleted an important file? Lost something important when your computer crashed? No problem! Recuva recovers files deleted from your Windows computer,
Recycle Bin, digital camera card, or MP3 player. And it's
free!

Windows 2000 is supported
I hope it helps

I have been that kind of issue with .JPG picture files and i have found that only one program maybe doesn't do the job. Some programs could found and restore something and some other something else. So maybe it's better to try more than just one program. Recuva is good and here's couple more to give a try:
EaseUS Data Recovery Wizard Free Edition 5.5.1
FreeUndelete
Hope this helps

Most important thing you never do the removal by means of wipe. Most likely the files could still be restored..

Insert a USB flash drive to the computer and download Recuva Portable to your flash drive.

Run Recuva Portable FROM your flash drive and scan the hard drive.
When found the files that you want to recover, save it to your USB flash drive.

Yea right. You should use Recuva to scan and remember to do a Deep Scan. Whenever you've found the missing files, restore those to a USB drive (preferentially) or any other partition of your hard drive, for best recovery.
The reason we're doing this is to prevent overwriting of recovered files to old sectors on the HDD which'd lower the chances of a recovery.
In short words, do it just because we say so!
