I just install IE9. I want my IE8 search box back

How do you make the icon smaller?

if you want to enable your favourites then right click on IE9 and enable through the drop down menu, if it's for typing and search you can install Bing or your favourite toolbar...next time you start IE 9 you will be asked if you want to enable the changse.
To reduce the size, remove what you don't want and unlock the toolbars so you can move them onto two seperate lines
With the changes to IE9 it will be unfamiliar to previous versions, i used Victor Kramers toolbar to block adds and flash and easy to change search engines.

You can also search from the URL bar. Just type in your query and press enter.

The way i have mine is similar to IE8 even though i preffered IE7, but as Student has for his signature change is inevitible except from a vending machine...

unfortunately it is not always better but I personally have like the "omnibox" approach chrome introduced and IE picked. It is a simplification of the previous toolbars to save space while maintaining functionality.
