Chrome 14 vs Firefox 7 – Memory Footprint Comparison

We have witnessed endless debate on the web regarding which browser performs the best. Firefox, Chrome and Opera have provided much needed options for the end users who are fed up of Internet Explorer and Safari browsers. Though IE still holds a big share of web browser market, Mozilla’s Firefox and Google’s Chrome have managed to consistently strengthen their foothold over the past few years.

In the recent past, companies have used different Javascript benchmarking tools to show how their browser is the fastest amongst the competition. Off late the speed of browsing has gained tremendous importance and somewhere most of us had started to forget other important features like memory footprint and security.

If we go by the general perceptions, Google Chrome is considered to be the fastest browser. Some believe that the reason for Chrome’s speed is it’s lower memory footprint, which is more of a myth than a fact, as we found out during our tests in real world scenario.

Both are memory intensive to me. :P Anyway, better hardware will compensate.

Reason why Chrome feels faster, yet uses more resources is simple. Chrome tries to precache all the links on a page so it autoresolves every link. On a small or less powerful server, like my P4 one, would be suicide to try running. Chrome's designed for big sites, or sites that have a good amount of server power behind it.

Good read. Personally, I have moved away from chrome in favour of Firefox and Opera.

I've noticed this "ages" ago, seeing that I'm a tab-junkie. It's one of the reasons why I chose to stick to using Firefox as my default browser.

It took me long enough to change to Fire Fox and i really like it... i tried chrome but have alot of resevations about running it.... or maybe i just don't trust Google...there are alot of large files with chrome, but on the plus side it does do a clean uninstall..........Opera is a good browser and i use it from time to time...

basicly plus 1 for Fire Fox
