Angry Problem with the Windows 7 Volume Mixer

    Hi guys.

I recently had a problem with my machine where by my Volume Mixer decided to randomly set all of my application volumes to 0. I've been able to turn most of them back up, apart from the plugin-container.exe file that Firefox uses, amung other things, to play Flash and other rich web content.

So, my question is, does anyone have any ideas on how I can either reset all of the Volume Mixer settings back to defaults, or turn up the plugin-container.exe process? It's really annoying not hearing any sound while watching Flash content.

    Cheers.

    Elliott.

Elliott - If you Open Volume Mixer, is there a slider included for Firefox volume?

Right click on the speaker icon and select "Volume control options". Make sure the option "All devices currently playing sound" is enabled.
It is often better to keep one's mouth shut and appear to be a fool than to open it and remove all doubt!

In sound settings untick "allow applications to control this device" that should stop it

Hi, and thanks for your help.

To Brightspark: yes, the main firefox.exe process is listed in the mixer, however this doesn't change the volume of plugin-container; it's a separate process. The checkbox that you mentioned was also checked.

To Tangomouse: thanks for your suggestion, but I don't think it will help; the volume of the plugin-container.exe process seems to be muted.

    Cheers.

Elliott - What version of Firefox are you running? I am guessing v3.x?

Next to brightspark's suggestion, another option that might work could be :
go to Sound-communications settings and try selecting "do nothing" or "reduce to 80%"
    (apply)
    Plugin container in firefox?
I used to turn it off "in about:config" (with no problems) on older systems, when 'plugin container' was too much of a CPU hog.

    Hi.

No; I'm using FF 7.0.1. If I can somehow find a way to either reset the value for plugin-container back to default, or reset all of the sound volume settings, I think that would fix the issue.

    Thanks.
