REDMOND, Wash., and LUXEMBOURG — Oct. 13, 2011 — Microsoft Corp. (Nasdaq “MSFT”) has closed its acquisition of Skype Global S.à r.l. Negotiations of the definitive agreement under which Microsoft would acquire Skype, an Internet communications company, for $8.5 billion were led by investor group Silver Lake and the transaction was originally announced on May 10, 2011. Boards of directors of both Microsoft and Skype previously approved the acquisition.

well this was going to be happen..
Skype has some features that MS liked and thus the so called acquisition of Skype by MS has taken place..
Google Talk is also Same VOIP principle based.. but some how Skype attracts more youth than Google Talk..
i remember my College days when i used to chat with my Girlfriend on Skype Hours and hours ..

I personally use both Windows Live Messenger and Skype. It's good that both the merging. now I have to manage only one...

Thank you Krumpelt, this was on the cards awhile back and this can benefit everyone that uses skype, lets hope MS looks after Linux users also by offering them their support.

Well now that it is official I wonder if Microsoft is going to just let Skype operate the way generally has or if it will "tinker" with the production.

And Skype 5.8.0.158 for Windows fixes the following issues:
*180° rotation of video call with Samsung Galaxy S 4G running Skype for Android;
*Automatic unmute of calls that have been reconnected even though interface showed mute was still applied.

Yeap I was shocked to see so many online users on my Skype account.
Other than that, after Microsoft took over Skype, there are more frequent updates.
