Font quality in XP

I was using W7 Ultimate on my desktop. I recently shifted to dual boot after installing XP on it. Now the problem is that the font smoothness is very bad compared to W7. I sort of used to the font smoothness of W7 Ultimate that now I feel a bit uneasy with the new looks. But I taught myself to get used to it. Now I am using a netbook with Windows XP Home Edition on it and surprisingly fonts appear very appealing to me. Can anyone tell me what exactly is causing this. Can I get the same feel on desktop too ? Thanks.
