English translator

Would like to clarify which is the best - back to back "English Translator". Probably freeware or shareware.

I have been to The University of Edimburgh for a couple of months, long time ago.
It is not free, though
Well, I added http://www.wordreference.com/ to my Firefox search engines.
It is not exactly a translator (no software can provide a good translation as well as human beings cannot) but it may help
