Tune-up Goes South
Clean and tune on a Vista rig,all going well until the end.I was booting great-12 to 13 passes of the bar graphic and right to the desktop.Uninstalled some junk toolbar with Revo, being extremely cautious as usual, and now I'm up to 32 to 34 passes of the bar graphic before desktop.Runs great after that-no problems at all.Performed a boot time defrag, but no help.Any idea where this went bad? Don't have the disk,so no fix MBR option-thoughts anyone ?? Thanks

Hey Detailer - Did you perform the 'clean and tune' manually or did you use some sort of cleaning/optimization software?
Have you checked to see what programs/processes are auto-starting with Windows?
Cheers...Jim

If at first you don't succeed...good luck mate and let us know how it goes the 2nd time around.

I have no experience with Vista but when I have had something similar with XP the first thing I try is running a full Disk Check, if that does not work I back up the registry with ERUNT, use a registry cleaner and then run a registry defrag, NTRegOpt from the maker of ERUNT does the job if you have no preferred option.
Both Here.

In testing different registry cleaners on both XP and 7, I have found XP is more susceptible to being screwed up than 7. At the moment Ccleaner is the only one I use and I have never had any problems with on either OS.

Including CCleaner I have a total of 8 which includes utility programs, they do not all pick up the same things.
When I first installed each one I made a back up before I used them and in total found about two dozen keys that needed to be excluded to avoid problems, now I run any of them without thinking about it.
If I had to choose which one was most effective on its own it would have to be Registry First Aid which I picked up in a giveaway, it has the defrag I most often use, followed by Vit Registry Fix.
If it is freeware it would probably be Wise Registry Cleaner, followed by RegSeeker which has a very good registry search.

I needed something that was safe, I have messed up my computer many times with cleaners. However I have never had any problems with CCleaner. I would recommend CCleaner for all new users.

While i do not prefer to use Registry cleaners, i have seen Abyssal Registry Cleaner as the one with very safe entries

Also jv16 Powertools 2011 has a lowest settings that rarely does any harm.

CCleaner can backup the registry before making changes, so having safe settings will be a problem ? (casual tone).
