Use Revo uninstaller and try remove it compeletly and then reinstall. You can also try Foxit reader which does the same and is very light too.

Yeah it would be better to use Foxit Reader instead.

or I would go with Sumatra PDF, freeware, light and not ad-supported at all ; )

Yeah adobe sometimes give trouble to some machine and its hard to repair this kinda software.
Better to reinstall or use alternatives as suggested above.

I think you should uninstall it completely and then install a new version of it compatible with the
computer specifications.

Thanks for the suggestions, I should have stated that I had used Revo uninstaller to remove it completely when the problem first started. Then I installed Foxit and that also did not run. Then I went back to and earlier restore point and still the reader did not work. I am using a Dell pc which is about 6 years old, which of course is an antique as far as PC's go.
Does anybody have any idea ?? at this point I am thinking about upgrading to a new PC but it seems a shame to do so.

If you use an old restore point, all changes you made are lost. Use Revo, remove any PDF readers availble. Install any good PDF reader (Adbobe, Foxit or any of your choice) and check.

Since you're on Windows XP, open Control Panel > Folder Options > and click on File Types tab.
Look for PDF at the extension column and click Delete.
Try reinstalling Foxit or Adobe Acrobat Reader.

First of all let me thank everyone who offered help.
I have tried everybody's suggestion and for whatever reason my PDF remain unavailable to read.
Adobe reader will not even open when I click on it, same thing happened when I downloaded and installed FOX IT....
I can continue to bang my head against the wall, but if someone offers another step I will most definitely give it a try
