Mine takes more than 4 hours because internet speed is sloooow here and also I install a hell lot of softwares and some of those need restarting.
I feel your pain Sujay, because my ISP is pretty slow also.

@ safeguy 6-8 hours huh? Oh man, you have a lot more patience than I do. 2 hours seemed like an eternity to me. With a specialized tweak job like that, maybe you could market it, as your own brand of OS.

I would call it Safeguy's Hardcore edition of Windows but I'm afraid of being sued over copyright infringements so I keep it simple: "Tweaked installation".

I wish I could but look at the above reply. Furthermore, I just don't have enough capital to market it.

Yeah, MS doesn't have much of a sense of humor about these things, does it? But I like the name!

Money, or the lack thereof, can be a real drag sometimes!

i remember re-installing xp using dial-up it took all day, if i was going to do a fresh install i would have all new drivers on hand before i started as it takes little time to download, Vista is alot slower than 7 so 1-2 hours, good point about the variables though and installing windows these days is second nature...

im lucky with fast broadband otherwise it would be a real drag.

Found this tool to be very helpful "WSUS Offline Update tool" also works for Office 2007, if you know your going to re-install no harm in having this along with some driver updates for slower connections.. just a thought.

I just finished a complete re-install of Windows XP for a friend using a disk with SP2. It took me 3 hours to install and run all the updates including SP3 and Net Framework.
In loving memory of my Grandpa John and Great Uncle Barry.
