I have an older computer that I was setting up and a DOS screen popped up initially requesting a password. I typed in a password and was asked to confirm, which I did. All seemed to be accepted until the next time I tried to turn on the computer. Again on a black screen I was asked to type in the password...using the very same password I was denied access. I am the only one in the house, so it could not have been changed. How can I override the password??

If you're talking about your system that ask for that password every time it boots, then it's very easy to clear the password.
If you have the motherboard manual (you can also download from the manufacturer website), look for the clear CMOS jumper. Make sure you've turn off the power and also disconnect the power cable.
Another method is to remove the battery on the motherboard for a few minutes then put it back. The next time you boot up, you'll have to setup your bios settings. When you remove the battery, make sure you turn off the power and disconnect the power cable.
