Running Vista on a Dell laptop:

GUI defrag won't run, DOS admin execution says to run chkdsk. DOS chkdsk reveals segment corruption (about 6 segments). Can I fix this without system restore ? What's the best way ?

    Please advise !

I don't think system restore will fix the segment corruption. Most probably CHKDSK already helped you fixed it.

I run XP Repair Pro on my Vista system about once a week to keep everything on the HHD clean, neat and tidy.

Try shutting down all your running tasks and then try to defrag. Could be that one of the running tasks is causing defrag to start and stop continually.

I always defrag my computer in Safe Mode. Reason is there are less running programs when you're in Safe Mode.
