windows xp home sp2 product activation

I installed windows xp home sp2 (french) for my mother., from a co-workers disk.
The product key is no good. So I have tried a few other ones with no luck. I'm just wondering if anyone knows if the key I have is from a english version, should it work? I have no clue where to find any information or forums for french products/software etc..

Is xp installed at all and will not activate or are you stuck in the middle of the installation With an error that the key is no good??

It is installed. working perfectly, but the product activation reminder says there are 15 days left.

okay before we get into a big deal here. Have you tried to activate it. If you have and it failed then there are a couple options but first try to activate it.I do not know if this is your first time installing XP but if it is you have to actvate it You should have an icon in the taskbar to activate or look in system tools in start menu. it has been ALOOOONg tiem since i have done a fresh install and axtivation.I am assuming you have not tried that yet and this is the first time you have had to install XP. You may be way ahead of me but i dunno. try this and i'll check back here regularly and i thinnk we can get it activated in 15 days lol. If the lisence is up XP willno activate then your friend will have to activate it for you by calling MS and they will give her a code and manually activate it.But first you try to just activate it normally. If that fails let me know.

Usually a home key can only be activated a few times. If you want to continue activating it, you'll need to call Microsoft and they'll give you a new key.

If you're trying to use your friend's XP product key, please do not discuss it here as that is piracy.
