Merging 2 word documents

Could you please suggest me simple tricks in MS word 2007 where I can combine 2 or more documents with different formating into a single one without lossing any formatting. I tried this using insert file, and always the formating is loss.

I have some files that I created with different formatting and now I cannot combine them as I have to number them.

With copy/paste you are able to keep the source formatting. I'm not sure if you can keep the original style though.
