I have just finished assembling a new computer, and on the workbench, using ancient CRT monitor, all was OK. All hardware was recognized, I loaded several apps, and all was well. The final task was to connect the new monitor, a Viewsonic VA1926w. I made sure to power up the new monitor before booting the computer, but the computer will not recognize the monitor. It does not appear in device manager, video devices shows no driver installed, yet when I run the "wizard" with driver, etc, system cannot find it. Downloaded driver from Viewsonic. This is not recognized. I have set up many systems including a Viewsonic monitor previously, all with no worries. Any suggestions before I return the monitor as faulty? Thanks a lot guys.
PS Even though the wizard cannot load the driver, and my other attempts have failed, I just went into All Progs to check and found the Viewsonic driver is installed! Bloody strange!!!

Thanks tangomouse. Obviously, at the moment, display is being provided by a generic driver. But I still need to load Viewsonic drivers and my system is virtually telling me "can't do that as you have no monitor connected"!

Thanks for your interest guys. I reloaded the driver for the graphics card. Suddenly the computer recognized the new monitor, hence I was able to load driver, etc, and now all is well!! Thanks again.
