i have a friend who said he is in south africa and emailed me using hotmail. i traced the x-originating IP addr it is in malaysia.
is that possible or my friend telling lie about his exact location?
any response much appreciated. thanks!

If his X-originating IP address is in Malaysia, very likely he is from Malaysia. Not many people know how to spoof email IP address.

He should have used Gmail because gmail doesn't show the originating IP Address :P

I would probably be able to tell if your friend is from South Africa if you can supply me with some info on the person like name, surname, province etc.
