Big Grin Disable Hibernation in Windows Vista

If you're using Windows Vista and don't use the hibernation feature, you might as well disable it because it takes up some space on your hard disk drive.

Unfortunate in Vista, it is not as simple to disable Hibernation like in Windows XP where you can do it from Power Options.

The simple way to disable Hibernation in Windows Vista is:

    1. Click Start then type right click on the command prompt icon and select "Run as Administrator"

    2. If UAC is enabled, acknowledge the UAC prompt.

    3. In the command prompt window, type powercfg –h off

No idea why Microsoft made is slightly unfriendly to disable Hibernation....

Would appreciate if you all could copy the steps here and then link it back to them. Reason is I have no confidence in how long other site will last but I know this site will go on for many many years. When those site dies off, all we get is just 404 errors.

Ok then fine. Here are the steps to Change the Functionality of the Power Button in Vista

Go to Control Panel and type the word "power" in the search box.

Click on Change power-saving settings. You will see a list of available power plans. Under the active power plan you will find the Change plan settings link. Click on it.

Now click on Change advanced power settings.

In the Advanced settings window scroll down until you find the Power buttons and lid section. In this section you will find the Start menu power button sub-section. Scroll down the Setting list and select Shut down. When you finished, click the OK button.

Now the Shut down button will be back in your Start Menu, just like in Windows XP.

Please do not directly link to images that is hosted on blogs/forums. If we're going to promote a software, linking the images from the developer's site is fine.

Also instead of quoting the site's name, please include the link as well.

Sorry to be a pain and I apologize for not providing a guideline.
