Protect ANY Pendrive by enabling Write-Protect/ Read-Only

With reference to this post by Raymond, I noticed that this tip only applies to owners of U3 pendrives like myself. Not many people I know own U3 pendrives, in fact the only reason why I got one was for my Haksaw-ing purposes.

Now, owners of non-U3 pendrives need not envy their U3 counterparts as the guys at Gaijin, have developed a program that allows you to turn your pendrive into read-only state, protecting it and you from viruses.

The steps to get this tool running are self-explanatory.

    1. Download USB WriteProtector from here

    2. Extract to anywhere on pendrive and run.

    3. Initially in German, change language to your desired language

    4. Select your desired option and close program. changes will take effect upon reinsertion of pendrive.

That's it, I hope this wasn't posted before as I searched the site for "USB WriteProtector" but got no hits. Maybe some other program was posted before?

This is similar to this method.

You'd still need to run the program on a computer before it will start protecting the pendrive.

Yeah, but correct me if I'm wrong, that method only works on the owners pc, but not others. If you don't want others to copy/delete your data on your pendrive, than that would be prevented right? As in the case of C.Mitra here: http://www.raymond.cc/blog/archives/2006/05/07/disable-write-access-to-removable-storage-devices/#comment-382528?

That's right Joel. This method only works on owners PC but as for the hacking U3 method, it works on every PC. Actually it depends on the need of the user.

If I don't want people "stealing" data off my computer using USB flash drive, USB Writer Protector works. But If I don't want virus to be infecting my flash drive which contains all the virus removal tools, then U3 method would be the best.
