{ Nice Protection} Add More Protection to YOUR PROGRAMS
ADDED PROTECTION FOR YOUR PROGRAMS
You might think you are well protected with your anti-virus software, firewall, malware scanner and all of the other bits of software designed to protect your PC but the fact is malicious programs can still slip past your defences but there is something more you can do to safeguard your programs.

Windows XP has a built in facility called Data Execution Protection that keeps a watchful eye on System files but its coverage can be extended to monitor for suspicious activity in all of the programs on your PC.
1. To switch it on open System Properties by pressing Winkey + Break (or right-click My Computer on the Start menu and select Properties)
2. Next select the Advanced tab, under Performance click the Settings button
3. then select the Data Execution Protection tab and check the option ‘Turn on DEP for all programs and service…’ Click OK and after a restart it’s done.
DEP can help block a class of security intrusions. Specifically, DEP can help block a malicious program in which a virus or other type of attack has injected a process with additional code and then tries to run the injected code. On a system with DEP, execution of the injected code causes an exception. Software-enforced DEP can help block programs that take advantage of exception-handling mechanisms in Windows.

Vista has DEP too, but it's a pain in the ass compared to XP's it seems, since it always kills programs using more then 50% of CPU on my PC. Normally that's fine, since that's what it's designed to do. But if you're running a graphic intensive game... kiss it goodbye.

I guess that answered my question, i was going to ask what is the down side to doing this since xp has it disabled by default, i was sure there was a catch to doing this

Well, if your PC is more then powerful enough for a game, it will not reach that high. Since my Windows computer is on an underpowered laptop, it's only to be expected that games can get that high lol.

No matter how powerful your computer is, many programs will always use 100% cpu when they run even if for short periods of time, if windows is gonna shut that down then there is no reason to use it
