    Themes in Vista

    Hello,

My laptop is running Vista Home Premium and was looking quite dull so I decided to change the theme. I used UniversalThemePatcher to patch the files that are necessary (to be patched) and then I downloaded this theme:

    http://giannisgx89.deviantart.com/art/Windows-7-Style-For-Vista-102269037

In the extracted folder there is the instructions that tell you to copy the folder to:

    C:\WINDOWS\Resources\Themes

And then double-click the MSSTYLES file. I done this but nothing changed. Only the background turned black.

How can I apply this theme?

PS: It would be cool if you could post some other cool themes for Vista (not necessarily Windows 7)

    Thanks

you used the most recent patcher right? this is why I hate Microsoft, they go to great lengths to prevent users from using other themes. I used to use Starkdock's windowblinds for my xp pro, that worked nice, but it cost out quite a bit for a year. After I got rid of that I just used the uxtheme patcher, but alot of themes from deviantart wouldn't take on the computer. Sometimes you have to uninstall and reinstall or manually go into the themes file and double click on the theme style you want to use and then restart the computer, that works, but not all the time.

and by the way, thats a nice theme you are trying to apply. If using the latest version of the patcher doesn't work, see if there is an older version, sometimes that works too. :/

I will go on ahead and see if I can get my vista Ultimate to work with that theme real quick.

Yes, I used the latest one. And it successfully patched, I just need to apply a theme now.

I restarted but I didn't download Vistaglazz, doesn't it carry out the same job as UniversalThemePatcher?

Yes it does, download it and then click on "check patch dll", then patch your dlls, it will ask you to restart your computer, once restarted go on ahead and "show status of aero style" located in the vistaglazz, then click on it to patch your msstyle and then go to your theme selection and choose the windows 7 one.

I wish I had a video card that had the capability to do transparency, so it looks like crap on my computer.

Yeah I have Tune Up Utilities 2007 and did that..but you can corrupt your computer by changing out the boot screen and logo screen so I don't mess with that. I never did like any of the themes they offered, still so outdated. I have vista and I think i'm going to stick with the theme it came with. But I also stopped using Tuneup 2007, moved onto Advanced systemcare pro with ashampoo's power up 3. I might try the New Tune up 2009, they added in new features...
