There is some really great free 3D software, but if you want top of the line you'll need either 3D Max, Poser or Maya 3D. Here's some links to get you started:

    Blender

    Daz3D

    Google Sketchup

    Anim8or

    Terragen 2
    MBAM Pro | MSE | www.utahphotographyblog.com

Blender is open source and free. Works on Windows, Linux, Mac, etc, etc. I just posted an update for it a few days back in "New Releases".

Hi everybody, first of all I apologize for my english (I am Italian). I just would like to say that I have read around that "Poser" is not a good 3D program at all. Professional web designers never use it and don't like it , mostly because of its slow and not-powerful rendering and the uncomfortable use of the commands. I am not an expert, but some months ago I Installed Poser on my computer and could realize all that (that's because I checked for informations about it).
Happy to be a new member of this site. Ciao a tutti
