    In Windows I use Paint.Net. I don't need a fancy one.

    Thumbs up

I like Paint.Net but a hate anything to do with .NET im a old skool VB6 man... I also like its clone for Linux called Pinta but again it uses Mono(.NET for Linux), i use Linux because it is Linux if i wanted .NET id use Windows i dont see the point of this mono? Its like trying to bridge the gap of them two together and you can blame Novell(SUSE Linux) for that.

Anyway my number 1 choice for both Windows & Linux is GIMP+Plugins, people say GIMP is no where near Photoshop, i say bull***t you have a vast array of pluggins at your disposal with GIMP that Photoshop can only dream about. A example of this is the new feature in Photoshop CS5 called Content-Aware Fill. Now take a look at this plugin for GIMP called Resynthesizer remind you of anything.

A good tutorial for using the Resynthesizer plugin for GIMP can be found HERE

    Happy GIMPing

The one I've tried using recently that hasn't been updated in forever is GimpShop and GimPhoto. I'm sure if you'll Google, you'll find them.

Some things get very close, but nothing beats Photoshop if you can afford it and need it.
I got Photoshop years ago (V4), and have spend the minimum to keep it upgraded over the years.

I've used others, GIMP, Paint.NET, Paint, Corel programs, etc. But for addons and actions available, tutorials, and capabilities, Photoshop has to be best.
Especially now that all of my cores can be used, it's very, very fast.
The only thing I would wish is that the support for vector graphics were better. Illustrator is extra and not easy to use.

My wife uses Wordperfect presentations for both picture and graphic processing. It is an easy to use, inexpensive program (comes with WordPerfect), and has quite an extensive list of capabilities. It handles both vector and non-vector images (conversion can be muddled, as always), and supports the Wordperfect file type (wpg), as well as the usual jpg, bmp, png, gif, etc.

Same issue here, but maybe it's part of their support limitation in order to buy their specific vector client Ai. Corel is my paid alternative. PS is still the king & industry's standard for years, in our office were still using Ps version 7 ...still has enough horse power to kick some pixels!
