Big Grin Northrop Grumman X-47 | In Picture

Here comes the future | Drone stealth plane.

The X-47B is a tailless, strike fighter-sized unmanned aircraft currently under development by Northrop Grumman as part of the U.S. Navy’s Unmanned Combat Air System Carrier Demonstration (UCAS-D) program. Under a contract awarded in 2007, the company designed, produced and is currently flight testing two X-47B aircraft. In 2013, these aircraft will be used to demonstrate the first carrier-based launches and recoveries by an autonomous, low-observable-relevant unmanned aircraft. The UCAS-D program will also mature relevant carrier landing and integration technologies, and demonstrate, in 2014, autonomous aerial refueling by the X-47B aircraft.

UCAS-D is designed to help the U.S. Navy explore the future of unmanned carrier aviation. A successful UCAS-D flight test program, including a series of successful carrier-based launches and recoveries, will help set the stage for the development of a more permanent, carrier-based fleet of unmanned aircraft.

This is part of the "benefits" of having a Gov't that is 15 trillion dollars in debt and yet, still spends more than the rest of the world combined on the military. Good planning, eh?

It has been the same story with all empires throughout history. I've heard it said that history is the greatest teacher, but that is only true if the people actually learn from it and avoid past mstakes. In the case of imperialistic governments, "Absolute power corrupts absolutely", and they begin to think they are immune from the mistakes made in the past, and so are doomed to suffer the same fate.

Oh, I feel for you my friend. The US can't just afford to let its guard down. With its new doctrine, budget-cuts due to prioritizing economic recovery, shrinking army units and base and this new robot machines, your armed forces is in the process of painful but superiority evolution. I can't blame them, the new cold war is here and it is via asymmetrical battle field.

Hey Ceyfer, I am all for a strong national defense, but when it comes to the gov'ts imperialistic policy of having troops and carrier groups stationed all over this planet, when my country is literally on the verge of bankruptcy, I just have to shake my head at the absurdity of it all. Someday in the immediate future the US will go broke and we will be a third world country overnight. Then some other country, probably China, will rise up to take our place and the cycle will be repeated. The funny thing is, that the founding fathers of my country knew this was an ever present danger and wrote safeguards into our constitution to prevent it happening. But when the president and the rest of the gov't blatantly disregard the constitution they swore to defend, and the people let them, all hope is lost.
