Wondering if HP sent me a refurb laptop

i have asked this b4 but this is a new isue. i sent back 2 laptops back to HP due to O.S isuse when i viewed the error files there were errors 2 years old and i had just bought the laptop. So i sent it back thinking i had gotten a refurb.

I like to know the makes an models of all my HW so i called HP to ask this info on the mobo they knew NOTHING. I finally installed Hirens 9.4 and it gave me the info right off the bat.

Now i have a new question out of the 2 ram sticks. I have 1 that is pc2 5300 running at 333mhz and 1 pc2 6400 running at 400 mhz made by 2 different manufacturers.According to the specs on Hp website i should be running pc2 5300 667mhz. So why the descrepancy in speeds and models, of RAm i am wondering again if i did not get a refurb PC. after 2 months of monitoring my HDD has dropped in health from 100% to 88% is all this normal. i do not understand the 2 diferent models of RAM or the degradation of the HDD. i know it seems like alot is going on with this PC but i am just over the past couple months really getting into it. I have had it less than a year and with the hospital stuff i have not had time to really get into it.

So is all this normal it just seems odd that i have 2 different manufacturers and speeds of RAm niether are running at full capacity it appears and the HDD seems like it may not last long at all lol

Sounds like a 'refurb' to me. One would presume that a new build would have matching RAM. My guess is that their shop gets lots of 'returns', and they just take parts from really DEAD machines to piece together repairable ones. "Oh, this one has a bad RAM module. Hey George, gimme one out of that hulk you're disemboweling."

Why do you get HP machines? after all the troubles you've had with them rusty it isn't worth it. Why don't you just get one custom built?

Polkadot i agree. EXACTLY what i was telling a friend. Problem is see the first 2 just had OS trouble and they were retuned within the proper time as an axchange. And after all the time in the hospital i am really just now getting into the machine adding softs and things. Now i did exchange one after the exchange period but i had a letter from the doc stating that the machine arrived while in the hospital.AND HP agreed to send a new one. But technically if they replace the broken stuff then its a "new' laptop But that is not to say they sent me a new one. Hell Hp could not ecen give me the mobo model or trouble shoot the degrading of the HD. They sent some tool to resize the available drive space which is supposedly a vista issue. i ran the tool thinking that i had a discrepancy in the space and that i was getting a false + on the tests. Any wya i run the tool and i lost 1 gig of space BFD after all that time. i suspected 1 of them was a refurb and gave hp the serial numbers and of course no they said it was new lol.One more tid bit is When i got the PC i looked at the shipping box it came from a chinese wholesaler i knew and had done som business with i dont think it was an Hp label if i remember correctly. All i know is i posted here 1 time about an xp issue on a 20 year old dell. Now i have posted constantly about this machine. Not knowing what was an OS issue. Until the RAM thing and the HD health dropping from 100% to 88 in like 2 months. i seeem to haave spin up errors that HD sentinel says my be a bad power supply or Bob or in this case Yang may have dropped a second hand power supply in it. noy bieng prejudice jsut meaning that its chinese made. I am seriously considering suing HP by the time they fight it they can give me a certificate for a new laptop to be gotten at BEST BUYS lol no more mail order. But who knows i rarelty use a coling pad becasue its always in my lap but keep a close eye on the temp and i keep the fan ports open to air the average op temp is 46c and max it was 51c according to samsung thi sis fine for the HD. MAx op temp is 55c and at rest i think its like 70c this makes no sense.. its a penryn processor and supposedly a cooler running processor. But i have no idea as to hwo to monitor the mobo or what a proper op temp should be for it . Really unless the fan is faulty i really DO NOT think it gets hot enuff to hurt it this fast anyway. i know its better to use a cooling pad but i really can't in my position. one more thing i have noticed is 1 processor runs hotter than the other i'll try to post screen shots of the results i got

Brayden i had this one made supposedly new.I had it built cept the mobo. Had larger processor nvidia card put in And i had no issues with it until recently. i thought i had installed a bad reg cleaner or imcompatable optimizer. it was not until i ran a program on hirens that i found the RAM discrepancy. i had a friend that bought an HP and she loved it so i thought i'd try it and until now under real use have had no issues. i had opened the door to check the ram models and there were like 4 stickers with 4 different model numbers. But somone here said it was no unusual to find t different speeds of OEM RAM. but they area different manu and supposedly should run at 667mhz anf they run at 333 and 400. i have a 2g and a 1 g stick
As for having one built i did not knwo enuff at the time to really knwo what to get. I knew nada about chipsets and what was compatable with what . But Bro iam learning now. plus i looked around here and to ge what i wanted after labor and all i would have spent twice the coin. So i learned a lesson but i am NOT THROUGH with HP yet. only thing is i have no way to prove or disprove if the machine is new.

Either of you guys have have any suggestions on what may be up or how to test this stuff out.i got a couple tools for testing the HD from samsung but have not run them yet its a samsung HM250JI
