I need help on turning on my laptop's built in WebCam (Windows Vista)

How do I turn it on?

The driver might not be installed. Go to your laptop maker's site, then to Support, then look for the driver there.

It works on messengers like Yahoo! Messenger I just need help on turning it on in general to take pictures and stuff...

go to start all programs see if there is a folder. for me its cyberlink. That is my webcam soft. Yours may be different. If no soft go to search type recovery that will pull up recovery manager. Click advanced i think and the tb to install sofware then scroll down to your cam and reinstall. make sure the drivers are updated. Remember these steps ypu can also install the original drivers there and anysoft you may have messed up with a bad reg cleaner. My experience with vista and update manager is that it does not always work go to the manufacturers site and see. Also try in search software manager that updates your software. Is the laptop an Hp by any chance. let me know if this works. If its a cyberlink soft or cam it should open software where you can film nifty lil backgrounds like snowing infront of you . And its really supposed to open the softwarre when the cam opens but maybe not in chat depends on the software. Definitely sounds like a software issue to me. Oh yeah after reinstalling the soft if need be restart but look WELl in the programs folder you may have to manually open the soft. Then the cam turns on then you take pics or video. let me know

Mine's 'Gateway Software for Webcam', just to warn you. Just skim though the start menu files, and see if there is anything there or not. If not, hopefully you've got something in the program folder.

I know my girlfriend was also having issues with her Toshiba laptop, and it was a manual update she had to do. Still didn't work, so she bought an external one, that plugs in. Ironically, first time she plugged it in, the drivers installed automatically... and it worked again. It's another possible idea.

i want to ask, why my build in webcam cant works..
when i open with cyberlink youcam, it shows..


Cannot connect to this video device( USB Video Device ). Please select another capture device via Settings or close any application that may be using this video device and restart YouCam.
