Happy AMD to ditch ATI brand

A little over four years have passed since AMD purchased ATI. In May of last year, AMD took the remains of the Canadian graphics company and melded them into a monolithic products group, which combined processors, graphics, and platforms. Now, AMD is about to take the next step: kill the ATI brand altogether. The company has officially announced the move, saying it plans to label its next generation of graphics cards 'AMD Radeon' and 'AMD FirePro,' with new logos to match. The move has a lot to do with the incoming arrival of products like Ontario and Llano, which will combine AMD processing and graphics in single slabs of silicon.

Good article noaccount makes sense for AMD to rebrand and combine the names to the company, and it will be intersting to see if they can push Nvida as we gain the benifits..

I wonder if this means the end to all of the support for ATI products?
    Wouldn't be surprised.

I thought for a second there was going to be no more ATI!

Jesus... Intel isn't competition to ATI or NVIDIA... Intel's a bump on the log compared to the rest of them!

So NVIDA vs AMD is how it will play out for now on... might be interesting!

Which reminds me... I want an NVIDIA card especially because I've had bad experiences with ATI under Linux. Er.. AMD under Linux.

I surely hope not! Both my computers have Radeon video cards.

Only in Salix. Salix is the only Linux distro I've had zero issues with ATI/AMD cards with.

I have a bunch of unused Radeon HD 2xxx and HD 36xx. Propane + GPUs = awesome game.

They wont kill the support or things altogether bcoz already there are many loyal customers and they'll not want them to shift for Nvidia...
