Driver for my HP Laptop
I recently had to re-install Windows 7 on my laptop and I noticed under devices, that some piece of hardware isn't working and needs a driver for it. The problem is, I can't figure out from the description, what particular hardware is being referred to and Windows says it can't find a driver on the web for me. So, I'm looking for a way to figure it out, so I can find the right driver. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks, John

Hi John maybe the drivers are specific to HP as i remember my friend installing Windows seven on a sony vaio and had to go to the manufacturers site to download the drivers,
i would check the manual for the HP laptop and see if all the software has it's drivers and is working as it should do, his was something to do with scrolling and only part of it worked also something to do with the inbuilt camera as it did work but not the way it was intended,
i don't have a laptop myself and have only seen this problem on the sony vio and the drivers where specific to the sony..

Thanks Jay. I have searched the HP website for all drivers for my model of laptop, but have come up dry so far. When I contacted costomer support, they told me they would send out a new installation dvd with all the drivers for my particular model free of charge, but that will be a last resort, as I don't wish to do another complete re-install.

My thoughts are use UD/UDI... Unknown Devices, Unknown Device Identifier.
They SHOULD work within theory, and may help you find the proper driver.

Hi Paul, thanks for your response. I'm not familar with UD/UDI, so could you perhaps explain how to use them? Remember, I'm just a rookie at this computer business.
Thanks, John

@ Jay & hellnoire
Thank you very much guys! Mission accomplished. Unknown Device Manager identified the device as an Intel Chipset Controller, but when I asked it to search for the driver, it came up empty. So I went to HP's website and looked at the drivers for my laptop. There was a chipset driver listed, so I downloaded and installed it. Voila! Everything works now.

There you go then
That's good to hear that it worked out as planned.

I may not always be the brightest bulb in the package, when it comes to computers, but what I lack in brilliance, I make up for with bulldog like determination to get things to work.
