PhotoFast's PowerDrive-LSI PCIe screams past the competition at 1400MB a second

PhotoFast's PowerDrive-LSI PCIe SSD screams past the competition at 1400MB a second

Usually we find overwrought product names, ostentatious paintjobs, and flame decals tacky, but all's forgiven with this PCI Express 2.0 SSD. CompactFlash stalwart PhotoFast has unveiled its all-new PowerDrive, which claims it can read your mind data at 1.4GBps and write it at an even faster 1.5GBps. That's the rough equivalent of reading two full CDs' content every second! Need we say more? The PowerDrive's speed puts the stinking fast Fusion-io ioXtreme to shame, humbles PhotoFast's own 1GBps G-Monster, and matches OCZ's otherworldly Z-Drive. The supported OS list includes a nice selection of Linux flavors as well, and sizes stretch from 240GB up to 960GB. Pricing? One word: unaffordable.

Thanks Prakash. Only in my dreams, will my new PC have one of these "bad boys"!

All I can say is holy $#%&. Looks fake, looks expensive.. but fake too.

Perhaps use it in a server system, because I don't see why you'd need that kind of speed on a desktop, but that's me.

No good reason Paul, just for the novelty I guess. But at that price range, no way is that going to happen.

Would the bus really be fast enough to take advantage of the speed?
And I don't see the pricing. Whats 'affordable?'

Well, a server and a gaming computer need speed. Both demand it for the rolls the run. But perhaps... even they are safe from this pricey craziness, at least until the price drops.

That's a good question... depends on how fast your PCIe slot is, the new 2.0 ones are really fast compared to PCI... but then again, it might not be fast enough.

Affordable would be sub $1000 per drive, which I can't see because when I was looking into a standard SSD for my laptop, it was about $200 for about 64 gigs.

One of the things I'm looking to spend a bit more on for my new PC, is a motherboard that will support stuff like USB 3.0 and SATA 3. A good MB is well worth the money, IMHO.
