USB 3.0 External SSD drives Introduced
Iomega introduced a set of USB 3.0 external SSD (Solid State Drives), with capacities from 64GB to 256GB.
USB 3.0 SuperSpeed theoretically has up to 10 times the transfer rate of USB 2.0, and the SSD's inherent speed allows the new drives to perform up to twice as fast as spinning 7,200rpm USB 3.0 drives.
They will be priced at $229.00 for 64GB, $399 for 128GB, and $749.00 for 256GB. All Iomega products come with a three-year limited warranty.

IMO, It is cool that they are being to sell this technology
but until the price per GB decreases I will sit back and wait. Besides if I wanted an SSD I'd rather have it in my computer

Classic Auto Buff
Way to expensive for me to justify spending that much money on a SSD. I bought a pretty decent laptop for what that 256 GB drive is selling for.
There may be a bit of snow on the roof, but there is still a fire blazing in the hearth!

Im with you Student happy to see USB 3.0 starting to take off and SSD will be a great benifit, as for the price it's way too much at the moment and when they become reasonable i would be happy to purchase one, even though i still think the size is limited.

That`s the thing with new tech. it costs insane when it is new and there is no competition.

Early days indeed Student as alot of mother boards that are for sale don't have USB 3.0 ports available, large internal drives SATA III are reasonable in price with decent read write speeds. sooner the better the competition gets rolling for all of us and let the price war begin
Capacity is a bit limited but i think we can expect an increase there also.

Hopefully the competition can also bring innovations that make the products even better at a competitive price.
Regarding capacity, I also foresee an increase in SSD capacity ( and other capacities in general). I remember having to get a USB for computer science class 3 years ago. An 8 Gb drive was selling for $65 (before tax), but now I could get one for $20. (almost a 70% reduction!)
If this happens and prices become reasonable then I might have to upgrade the PC since the benefits of SSDs are tantalizing.
