Intel or AMD
I know it's impossible to compare Intel and AMD processors they just work differently to each other, as i have only used Intel, is there any AMD users that would recomend AMD over Intel and to what advantage.. In the haynes manual i read (Tom's hardware gave it a go one time),a duel core Intel was as fast as a top end AMD on paper but the principles of the AMD where different and not a true test of the processors.. I like the idea of the i7 with quick path and that's the direction im aiming for, but i would like it if some-one that has used AMD with some knowledge would share as i would be interested in their opinion..
There are always fanboys, but there's always changes, im in the happy to learn category.
It's easy to read on the web but actual use differs from print.

In the decision between AMD and INTEL
there are three deciding factors
Budget
Intended Usage
Brand Preference
This will help you make your choice
Intel Processors are overall very good performers(budget more than 200$)
Amd generally makes processors for gamers on tight budget(less than 180$)
p.s
if you have budget for Intel Core I 7 950 @290$(LGA 1366)
go for it eyes and ears closed
I myself use a budget AMD Athlon II X4 635
so you can't accuse me of being a fanboy

AMD was microprocessor leader in old days (up to 2006). AMD processors were 20-30% faster as compared to Intel P4 at same frequency. However, when Core2 architecture appeared, AMD loosed its superiority and still trying to catch performance of Core2. Core2 architecture is so much optimized (pipelines, execution units, SSE instruction sets) that now it is 20-30 % faster as compared to AMD at same frequency. Therefore, I do not think anyone has any solid reason to recommend you AMD over Intel. It is not fanboy-ism, it is about performance per unit invested cost. You can get Intel processor in budget range. AMD also has offers for you to have a processor in same budget with higher frequency, but what about comparative advantages. AMD is already working on improving efficiency. I wish AMD should introduce new architectures soon to compete with Intel as I am also thinking about upgrading to newer architectures
Windows 7 SP1 Ultimate x86 + KIS 2011 (11.0.2.556 b.a.c.d) + Sandboxie Paid (3.54) + Deep Freeze Standard (7.20.020.3398)

Boyfriend and Funky are both right. It has not always been like this, but as matters stand, go for Intel if you can afford it, and if you do need the extra performance. Personally, I went for AMD, because of the budget.

I've been both AMD and Intel user for years...to me newer models of both brands regardless of their architecture differences does'nt really matter to me. It is in accordance to your computing needs and available budget. Intel is on the supremacy period these recent years! support for both brands is widely available and the pricing is quite better than the previous versions.
Be practical.
AMD Athlon™ X2 user.

Thank you guys for your comments, i have spent most of my time looking up intel processors, i7 930 at 266 euro, is the most affordable, as far as AMD very few pc's i have come across run with this processor as it seems intel dominate at the moment, one point about the replies is everyone points towards intel, believe me guys i don't think we have fan boys amongst us and if AMD was topdog then the replies would have been AMD, i appreciate your views as i have seen little of AMD and a small crowd in Dublin are boasting about cheap fast pc's with AMD processors, the specs look half decent, the processor doesn't and i have no intention of buying a pre built pc again, this is just a hobby for now, as long as im a member here i can rely on sound advice, from people i respect
Thank you for the links BoyFriend
