Hi idgiti is there any chance that the drive is under warranty, have a look at this link HERE see if it's any help, have you tried plugging into another pc or laptop ? that's the first thing i would try to eliminate the problem, what version of windows are you running ? try the basics first i know they reccomend the right procedere for removing the drive and if you followed the advice there is a good chance the data is not corupted.

Really sounds like it's now a drive problem, i looked on google and apparently your not alone with this quite a few people, who are having the exact same problem, maybe turning to a data retrievel company maybe the answer here.

This Link HERE is from Western Digital and may give you a better indication of what is happening and a few solutions for you to tryout.. Hope you get it sorted..

If you have not solved the problem yet, does the drive show in Computer Management > Disk Management window? If it shows as a drive in Disk Management right click on the drive and select `Change Drive Letter '. If all is well it should now show in My Computer from where you can select the drive and files.

If the drive is not under warranty i would take a look inside and see if the circuit board is burned, the last one i looked at was, as a desperate measure we picked up the same drive and changed the circuit board to recover data, the problem been getting the exact drive, this is extreme but the files where important and the drive fairly cheap thankfully.
