Uninstalling and re-installing the drivers would fix the problem. However google that error message.

Microsoft did release a driver for PCI soundcards in W7 not too long ago. But how do you know the soundcard causes the problem?

that is the message i get when i try to make a call via Windows messenger. I have the driver cd that came along my computer and i installed the corrupted driver again. It stopped all other sound devices. Then i uninstalled it again and upon restart the other sound devices worked again but the microphone did not work. So that is the problem folks.

I meant the exact wording of the error, you just said 0x8ac70004. The exact wording helps us concentrate on your specific problem. A Guy

press the Alt key on the keyboard in any Messenger window, click the Tools menu from the menu bar that appears, and choose Audio and video setup. Within that wizard, see what it thinks about your audio device there.
What about your antivirus, do you have something like site advisor installed. So shut them and see if you get the same error again. Also check firewall.
Navigate to the following folder: : C:Program FilesMcAfeeSiteAdvisor Windows : Right-click on the file sasets.ini and choose Open With, then select Notepad. Locate the section titled [msnmsgr.exe]. Change Enabled=1 to Enabled=0. Click File and select Save.
