We have a machine (typically, it would have to belong to my manager's manager) which ocassionally seems to think that it's getting key presses when it's not. The user has his start button up on the top right of the screen (but that's probably not relevent to the issue) and every now and then the start button and menu will constantly flicker on and off, on and off. It also seems to the think that the left directional key is being pressed because it will dance around across the menu. When I open Notepad in this state and space it over to the right, the cursor moves back to the left again. The issue can only be resolved by unplugging and replugging the usb connection for the keyboard. I have tried different usb keyboards and different usb ports but it always seems to return. There isn't a ps/2 connection on this machine (a Dell OptiPlex 740 with XP SP3). Event Viewer doesn't show anything strange and I have tried removing it from Device Manager and reinstalling. Can you assist please?
