Built-in card reader isn't working (driver issue)
I have an Acer Aspire 5570Z notebook running Vista SP1. A while back my computer started displaying 2 messages during logon.
The first one says that Windows can't locate drivers for the Mass Storage Controller.
The device status in Device Manager is: "This device is not configured correctly. (Code 1)
There is no driver selected for the device information set or element."
The second window informed me that Windows couldn't install drivers for the PCI to CARDBUS Bridge.
The status in Device Manager is: "The drivers for this device are not installed. (Code 28)
This operation requires an interactive window station."
Since then the card reader which is built into the laptop doesn't work. Windows doesn't seem to acknowledge its existence.
I tried installing the CardReader TI driver available on Acer's website, but that didn't help. I contacted the Acer support department & they were unable to assist me.
The specs for my 2 devices is as follows:
1394 CardBus Card Gppdvion PCMCIA convert to 1394 CardBus 2 Ports
USB2.0 CardBus Card IOGEAR USB 2.0 2-Port CardBus Card
Intopic USB2.0 Notebook cardbus Host controller
PCMCIA Port
Item Specification
PCMCIA controller TI PCI8412/PCI6412
Supports card type Type-II
Number of slots One type-II
Access location Left panel
Supports ZV (Zoomed Video) port No ZV support
Supports 32 bit CardBus Yes
Raymond once responded to me that it must have to do with the Upperfilters and Lowerfilters.
Could anyone explain that to me & how do I fix it?

Follow the instructions from point number 1 to 3.
When you're at the class on the left pane, right click on it and select Export.
Save the file to any name and attach it to this forum. I'll have a look at it.
If you're unable to attach, upload it to www.rapidshare.com and send me the link to download the file.

I've checked the classes and doesn't seemed to be the upperfilter or lowerfilter problem.
Now download the CardReader driver from http://global-download.acer.com/GDFiles/Driver/CardReader/CardReader_TI_2.0.0.6_VistaX86.zip?acerid=633638854806863622&Step1=Notebook&Step2=Aspire&Step3=Aspire%205570Z&OS=V10&LC=en&BC=Acer&SC=AAP_6
Unzip/Extract the downloaded file.
Go to Device Manager and double click on the Mass Storage Controller.
Install the drive and browse the location of where you've extracted the downloaded Card Reader file.

I tried that but it didn't help.
Let me give some more info, bec. I'm having a couple of related problems.
First here's a pic of my Device Manager:

There are 4 devices with problems. The IEEE 1394 Controller & the Mass Storage Controller have the message "This device is not configured correctly. (Code 1)...".
The PCI to CARDBUS Bridge says "The drivers for this device are not installed. (Code 28)...".
The SDA Standard Compliant SD Host Controller says "This device cannot start. (Code 10)
Click 'Check for solutions' to send data about this device to Microsoft and to see if there is a solution available."
Sorry for not providing this info earlier

@stevew.
I my humble opinion these problems are all driver related. I know everyone wants things for free, I do too, but I invested in `Driver Detective'. This will scan your computer and list out of date drivers which you can then download and install from their site.
Using this program has saved me endless hours of searching, trial and error and hair pulling, chasing driver problems.

Is there a way to post the results from Driver Detective?
I ran the scan and it said there's no driver installed for those devices. It didn't list any options.
I clicked the Request Driver button and sent the request so we''ll see if that leads anywhere.

I don't think Driver Detective has an option to post the scanned results.
Since you're using the registered version of Driver Detective, you have the option of asking PC Drivers HeadQuarters support staff a question.
Do update us when they get back to you.

Is there a ' Floppy Disc' icon on the line where it says no driver installed?
If so click the floppy disc and it will take you to the download. It will then ask for your licence number if this is the first time you have used the program. If you have purchased one, enter the number using 'copy and paste' and then the download will begin. If you have not purchased a licence then it will not download.
You will then be able to download all the other drivers by clicking the floppy icon in turn. Read the download and installation instructions with each driver.
Hope this helps
