    Ram Heat Spreaders

Recently i bought Corsair Vengeance ram for my build and the heat spreaders are a bit too tall as far as im concerned.

Old school say's you don't need the heat spreaders and i will have a fan over them the CM V10.

I was thinking of using low profile heat spreaders rather than the tall heat sinks or would it matter if i didn't use the low profile at all ?

The voltage is 1.5 volts and i don't intend to over volt, i don't care about the warranty as the heat spreader is easy enough to remove with due care, and they are aluminium and not the best cooler available.

Hi Jay. IMHO, given the size of your case and the cooling fans you plan to use, I really don't think removing those heat spreaders would make much of a difference, as long as you don't care about invalidating the warranty. I have Corsair RAM installed in my PC so I know what you mean by those heat spreaders being obnoxiously tall!

I'd go with the old school way, no heatsink, just fan for your ram.

I've been using old school ram on the i5 computer. The P4 had some heatspreader ram in it for a little while, didn't notice any real difference.

Thank you for the replies, i think they are mostly for show to be honest as they feel really cheap, so i will remove them altogether as the cooler covers all six slots anyway and 1600 Mhz is plenty as i don't need to be hitting the 2000 mark...

You do not need RAM heat spreaders until you want to overclock them via voltage.

To be honest i can't see the value as the mechanic in me all i can see is dust traps and they look cosmetic, another way to advertise the makers name, and not for normal to sane overclocks.
