Can't add more Ram
Hi all-been awhile! Just picked up a used (primo condition) HP DV9000 notebook. This is one of those "media types" with remote control, play DVD's without booting Windows, yada yada.Anyway, all of the HP media functions have left the building as the Vista OS was replaced with Win 7 Ultimate 32bit.Not seeing much on the HP site for software and drivers-even for Vista 32bit application.I can live without that(unless someone can help),but the killer is,I ran the Crucial Memory Scanner, and it tells me I'm maxed out at 2 Gigs.So my question is,would it be the processor or the motherboard(or both)preventing me from installing additional Ram? It's got AMD Turion 64x2 Mobile, and if need be,I can install Speccy or Everest to get the MB specs. Thanks for the read!

I've checked the AMD Turion 64x2 Mobile specs and it doesn't say anything about maximum ram.
Found an interesting answer in HP forum. It's better to call HP up to confirm about this.
"Most AMD based 9000's support 4gb RAM .."

Thanks for the link and reply Raymond.I'll snoop around with the exact model # to see what I can find.Tech support won't be of much help,as the warranty period has passed. They always want $$ just to talk to you about even general inquiries.

Everything I see says it is 2 Gigs max. Go to [url=http://www.crucial.com]Crucial and run the scanner (look for Crucial System Scanner tool
Or, you can scan your computer to find out what is already inside your system and get recommended upgrades. Just under the advisor tool). A Guy

Mostly its the motherboard limiting the ram .Check motherboard documnetation which will tell u whats the max ram
Anyway 64bits are desinged to take more than 4gigs ram and u rs is 64bit model

It is designed for 64 bit raybky but he is using a 32 bit operating system and your right about some motherboards limiting ram, as i know Dell have limitations even on the 64 bit... also 64 bit is well able to read beyond 4 GB as my new one can have upto 24 GB.
i have never used AMD as all machines todate have been intel, but it does look like a limitation is in place.

I'd rather be fishing!
I just had to have the motherboard replaced in my HP laptop with Win 7 64 bit OS. Previously, I was able to access all 4 gigs of RAM installed on my laptop, but now it is limited to 3.9. The only reason I can think of for this, is the new motherboard.

Sounds like you have a bargain detailer and using win XP which im still very fond of makes it sweater and i agree that Vista just wouldn't cut the mustard on the laptop as it performed quite well on my home pc that has 4 Gb of ram and a quad core, but 7 beats the pants off of it... more functionality and less bloat.. also the plus side you gain the extra space by deleting Vista recovery partition.. good luck with the new laptop.
Even the Dell i have is a good pc but is restricted, so now im building my own and one, im not limited by a manufacturer thankfully

Thanks JayCub-I'm keeping the Win7 Ultimate on this, even though it cost me all those multimedia features that were installed with HP's brand of Vista-couldn't imagine Vista on 2 Gigs anyway-uses nearly half a Gig just to run! Peeked inside this thing and saw two 1 Gig sticks of Kingston,so I'm guessing it had only 1 Gig from the factory. Can anyone imagine Vista on 1 Gig!! Like climbing a mountain with a 300 pound back pack!!
