    HDD failue

My laptop has been around for almost a year now. Yesterday when I turned it on it said that SMART detected that a hard drive failure was imminent and that i should backup my data then it said that I should run the hard disk self test. When I ran the HDD self test, it said that my drive passed and completed the test. SMART and the HDD self test had conflicting results. Which one of them is more reliable?

Are you using a HP laptop? If the HDD self test is ran from BIOS and reports that it is fine, then you shouldn't worry.
To be safe, backup your important data first and run the hard drive testing software below.
