    CPU Fan Failure press F1

on the boot screen sometimes cpu fan failure shows up and press f1 to continue, and i can't find out why, it's an asus rampage III updated bios and firmware, 30 degrees "c" is the highest the cpu went with a 4.0 Ghz overclock, cpu header is correct, all fans work fine also runs quiet.... 1400 rpm for the 4.0 Ghz
I have changed fan speeds and then this error showed up..
i tried google but not much help there.. as it was either a failed fan or incorectly placed fan header... as of today the system is uptodate.
Does anyone know if this is an Asus problem?
I think this is a software problem so it shouldn't be posted here as i can't see hardware failure...

I have an ASUS motherboard that does the same thing every time the AC power is turned off. I've been trying to find a solution for years but nothing has worked so far, so yes I think the problem is with ASUS bios. If you do find a solution please post it.

Wow interesting. Jay what does it show ?? Cpu fan failure and press f1 to continue ?? Just check bios settings once more. Though I'm using Asus mobo but never faced this type of problem . Update us if you sort out any solution. Best of luck.
I don't need to know everything, I just need to know where to find it, when I need it.

This is actually a fairly common issue with Asus BIOS and aftermarket CPU coolers (their fans, specifically). It has several possible causes, and some fixes. First, in BIOS see if Cool & Quiet, or Qfan, is enabled, if so disable that and see if the problem goes away. If you go into the BIOS under the BOOT menu you can disable the Wait for "F1" if error selection, this of course would prevent a legit error from displaying. Also, I see where if the fan RPM falls below 600RPM, that will generate this error. A Guy

Thank you for the responses this is only running a couple of days and my first build, and thank you A Guy, i monitor the computer cooling and it's running quiet and cool and also has the rog OC station, so im happy to know it's a common issue, this doesn't happen every boot, and if it continues i will disable "the Wait for "F1" if error selection" other than that im happy with the way it is running at the moment and will keep the stable BIOS safe before Overclocking further ...

Hi Jay. Glad to hear it is just a glitch in the software and not a hardware issue, but having warning messages pop up once in a while is still annoying I'll bet.

True Bear and it seems to happen on every second boot, the plus side is i can hardly hear it here beside me and after the initial burn test i wasn't too worried, hardware is always the easy part, it's software that causes the most headaches, A Guy is really helpful and with more insight than i could get from google.

I have one old pc with ASUS motherboard, and i tried to change the old stock cpu-fan with another fan...
So, i start the pc, and i got the same error as you.. "CPU Fan Failure press F1 ", and after 1-2 seconds the pc continues booting normaly, the new fan is spinning normaly, the cpu temp is the same... nothing bad happens.
But, since the only reason for changing the fan was only the noise from it, and i don't use that pc often, i returned the old fan back
I thought a fan is a fan.. but i guess i was wrong.

I thought fans could be swapped quite easily untill i tried it on a dell 4550 and found dell in their wisdom wired the connections different to the standard, some have three and some have two, but most are standard whether 2 or three pin, i would have kept the new fan in and tried a few different profiles to see if the F1 problem went away as it looks like it was fine other than that.

Dell fans have a rpm sensor in them. It's possible to wire it so it doesn't throw the error, but if the CPU fan ever failed, you'd only find out about it after it fried. I actually changed the cooling fan on my old Dimension 4600, and left the stock fan in the case to cool the ram, and be detected by the MB. A Guy
