    slow random access

I've recently bought a new power supply and cpu case. After I transfered the parts to the new cpu case, the performance slowed down. I tried to check every wiring and they were properly connected. So i was wondering if there is something wrong with my RAM so I tested it using disk thruput tester and windows memory diagnostic.

    Disk Thruput Tester:
    Sequential Write: 1024MB in 23.84s = 42.9MB per second
    Sequential Read: 1024MB in 21.83s = 46.9MB per second
    Random Access: 1024MB in 317.94s = 3.2MB per second

    Windows Memory Diagnostic:
    no error found

    My System Properties:
    System:
    Windows XP Pro SP3
    Computer:
    Pentium(R) 4 CPU 3.00GHz
    3.00 GHz, 1.99GB of RAM
    Physical Address Extension

It's weird right? The random access was only 3.2MB/sec and the read has almost the same speed as write.. why is that so? What's wrong with my computer?

i was hoping for some feed back to the problem, so i will wait and see... a straight swap shouldn't cause these problems, but im not sure if the cpu case was meant as new "case" or an aftermarket cooler

Hi yao90 i tried downloading the file but it gave me grief, from what is posted it's not showing any infection, at the end of the file it would have pointed out any infections, a new case or psu will not slow your pc down unless of course the quality isn't good as i would imagine it's better ventilated than before, the board is getting on a bit, but can you set your memory timings from the BIOS, have you added any software since the transfer that is causing conflicts, most slowdown experience i have had is down to software, check and see how many start up items you have.
The specs for an XP machine look good and it's a process of elimination.
usually you would get hardware beebs if there where problems or warning diodes (LED's), as it's a straight swap it is a strange one...still think it's maybe a conflict.

It can also be caused by frequent shut down the computer directly, without going through procedures such as sudden power failure. When you turn the computer back, it could arise such symptoms. You can check VGA card right into place. Or when symptoms such as PS run but the monitor does not run, at that time you can press light switch the hard disk to restart, it will return to normal.

yes.. but my problem right now is that my computer runs so slow.. i cant even play web-based flash games like Zuma Blitz on Facebook smoothly..

oh another problem.. my comp seems cant shut down itself. when i tried to shut it down.. it just stuck on the shutting down computer.. but when i tried the restart.. it can restart smoothly.. another symptom for the problem, i think?

Your bright enough to change over your mobo and check your connections yao90, so i still think that you could be looking at a software problem, did you do a fresh install of XP and udate all drivers, and defrag the disk, you have plenty of ram and CPU that is XP capeable, you can run chkdsk although it takes a while it may help you narrow down your problems
