Seagate to Introduce a Wireless Hard Disk Drive

It's the wireles age so it should not be surprising that wireless hdd will be entering the marketplace. Hard disk drive giant Seagate is releasing a:
wireless hard drive with a built-in personal Wifi network for iOS devices--Apple's iPad, iPhone and iPod Touch. The idea is that since the Apple devices don't have expandable memory or slots to allow in external hard drives, heres a way to greatly extend their use. The Seagate GoFlex Satellite drive is 500 Gigabytes and sells for $199.99, at the Seagate, Amazon and Best Buy websites.
    (via Source below)

    Technical Details:
    • 500GB storage
    • 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi capabilities with WPA security
    • rechargeable battery.
    • stream video and audio content to three different mobile devices at once
    • five hours of battery life
    • up to 25 hours standby time

    Ports:
    • USB 3.0 2.0 connection.
    • Firewire 800
    • eSATA

Compatible with Windows 7, Vista, XP, and Mac OS X 10.5.8 or later

Note: for those curious the reason that this is being branded towards the iOS is that many apple products lack USB ports. Another reason that I have yet to purchase an apple product.

Thanks for the info Student. An interesting concept, but I can't see myself needing and/or buying one of them.

Thank you Student, shows a shortcoming in Apples products, seagate can see a hole in the market and good for them, i will have to wait for the full reviews to see how well the harddrive performs.

200 dollars for 500 Gb hard drive, im happy im not an early adopter, and it's not proved it'self in real world scenarios.

I see a few companies now plugging holes in the market, and leaving consumers spoilt for choice, what i would like to see is more challenge for better prices.
