you require permission from a trusted installer...
First of all Hey to All.. been a Long time since i've been here.. my computer went on the fritz due to a spill.. liquids are Not a computers friend.. that's pretty much why I'm here.. I had all my stuff put on an external hard drive by somebody else, and he put the Whole operating system, program files, etc. on it, and when I go to try and remove them from the ehd, it reads:you require permission to from a trusted installer to make changes to this folder.. I'll put an attachment to let you guys see it.. I'd really like to get this stuff off there and free up some space cause I want to place all my photos on it instead of my computer.. Any help appreciated.. Thanks so much in advance,
Try taking ownership. If fail, the best and easiest way is to burn a copy of linux live cd and boot up the computer with it.
Linux bypasses Windows folder restrictions
when I first tried to delete the files windows automatically gave me ownership of my files which kinda flipped me out cause i was like, '' alright, this Asus has something my Toshiba didn't" well, it went through All the files I thought deleting them, but then when it came to Really deleting them, the whole folder and all, That's when it said I needed a trusted installer.. and Raymond, I'm not real sure how to go about doing the Linux thing.. When I shut my computer down do I leave the ehd hooked up, then turn it back on with the Linux cd in, and since my external hard drive has a whole operating system on it, won't it try to boot up That OS too?? and thanks so much guys for getting back to me so quickly.. I changed my email addy or I would have been back here quicker with a reply.. Thanks in Advance, WalkingHeart
You likely have to set permissions after taking ownership.
Right click folder and choose Properties> Security tab> Under Permissions for system> Advanced> Click on your user and choose Change Permissions> Make sure
Include inheritable permissions from this objects parent
AND
Replace all child object permissions with inheritable permissions from this object
Are both checked> Apply and OK your way out.
If no joy, Unlocker or Lockhunter should be able to delete, maybe after a required reboot.
I wasn't really sure what I was doing so I attached a file of what I'm seeing.. I'm just afraid I'm going to mess something up.. There's a Lot of photo's on there I don't want to lose, but I would Love to have that unnecessary OS off there.. in fact there are 2 according to the external hd.. you'll see what I mean when you see the attachment.. Thanks A Guy for the help.. I'm also going to look into Unlocker and Lockhunter before I hit the sack.. This place is an awesome place to come for help.. TIA.. walkingheartraymond.jpg
No worries, better to be cautious. Here are the steps:
Right click folder and choose Properties
Click on Security tab> Click on Advanced
Click on your user name> Click on Change Permissions
Check both boxes, click Apply button> OK your way out
This will give the user full permissions on the folder. If you need Unlocker, it will be because your user needs permissions, and not TrustedUInstaller. It may need to be deleted on reboot. If no joy, post back with screenshots of any error/notification popups. A Guy
A Guy, I did everything shown but when I go to change permissions it doesn't allow me to check any boxes.. I included an attachment of what I'm seeing.. I have to run to the doctor this morning but if all else fails what program do you recommend, unlocker or LockHunter?? I've read up on both of them and besides re-booting and a better looking interface they're both about the same right?? Thanks so much for your help and your patience.. walkingheart
Real quick if someone could answer me.. i'm doing the Unlocker, and it's deleting the files now.. (i think) Do I re-boot with the external HD still hooked up to my computer.. I mean I would think so but if it has a whole nother operating system on it, won't that mess it up?? TIA, walkingheart

I tried both Unlocker and Lockhunter and neither one worked.. with Unlocker when I tried to delete the folder my computer froze up, twice.. With Lockhunter it read it couldn't be deleted.. am I going to have to delete my program files, Windows, etc., one by one in order to delete them?? anybody?? thanks, walkingheart645
Hmmm, I believe you don't see the two options to check because in my 3rd picture, you see Include inheritable permissions from this objects parents, is unchecked on yours. Can you check that before proceeding to the Change Permissions screen?
You say you have a complete operating system on the EHD, what does it show in disk management? Start> Control Panel> Administrative Tools> Computer Management> Disk Management. Post a screenshot. Only your C: drive should be marked Active.
You might try to [url=http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/507-built-administrator-account-enable-disable.html?filter]enable the Windows 7 Built-in Administrator Account, and see if you can delete from there. Might have to do from Safe Mode.
