Intel shows off liquid cooler, DX79SI motherboard for Sandy Bridge-E processors

It’s been rumored that Intel would offer a liquid-cooling solution instead of a stock cooler with its new Sandy Bridge-E “extreme” processors, and multiple enthusiast sites have indeed snapped photos of the new cooler on the IDF exhibition floor.
From the photos, we can determine that the RTS2011LC cooler has been created in conjunction with Asetek, which had previously announced it was working on a Sandy Bridge-E liquid-cooling solution. According to Legit Reviews, Intel reps said it’s similar to the Corsair Hydro H70 kit that Asetek designed, but that parts were updated, including a 120mm fan. The fan even includes blue LED lights. While designed with the LGA2011 socket, it will also work with Intel’s 1155, 1156, and 1366 sockets.

The X79 Express chipset is the successor to the X58 and will be paired to Intel’s upcoming LGA2011 socket for next-gen processors. The motherboard seen here is the Intel DX79SI, obviously based on the chipset. As its name suggest, the RTS2011LC liquid-cooling solution is also designed for said socket.

Thanks for the news A Guy. I have been thinking about adding an after market cpu cooler to my system and am still debating whether to go with air cooled, or liquid cooled.

Generally, the H70 (which this is apparently modeled after), is good for another 2 - 5 degrees drop from a good air cooler (Hyper 212+). A Guy

Hey Uncle Bear, I think you should stay with an air cooler. One of my friend's from school said his dad's computer has liquid cooling and it started to leak. He thinks it caused damage to the motherboard also and had to replace it.

Thank you A Guy and judging by benchmarks i would go for the Corsair Hydro H100 for an all in one water cooler for the cpu, as the radiator is a decent size and you can use upto four fans in a push pull configuration.. they say it's good for five years..

This new intel, and the Corsair coolers are sealed units, with a non conductive fluid inside. They are very reliable, and I have had no personal knowledge of anyone that has had one leak. There are regular water cooling solutions that you build yourself. They are also generally very reliable if assembled correctly. But they are put together with fittings and tubing, etc. so can be susceptible to leakage if improperly assembled. These would be more for extreme overclocking, or those who want the "cool" factor

The way my luck runs, I would probably be the first!
But seriously, thanks as always for input! I was looking at the prices of a good liquid cooler and I'm not sure I want to spend that much money at the present. Something like Hyper 212 Plus would be much more in my price range and should allow me to experiment with overclocking.

As you know I have a Hyper 212 + on my i5 750. Very impressive cooler, and especially for the cost. A Guy

I'm still running the stock cooler...
maybe I should change that, but with how small my case is, might be better to wait a bit.
