Intel Releases Two Pentium and Two Core i-series CPUs
Intel has updated their product database (ARK) with four new CPUs. Two of these are branded as Pentiums: 967 and B960. The former is a low-power model with only 17W TDP for BGA-1023 socket. The latter is a regular 35W TDP for rBGA-998 socket. The two new Core i-series CPUs are i5-2430M and i7-2670QM. As the naming suggest, the i5 part is dual core whereas the i7 is a quad core chip. All these CPUs are mobile variants and based on Sandy Bridge microarchitecture.
Pentium 967 is the only newcomer, the other three CPUs are just slightly higher clocked versions of their predecessors.

Interesting. Been looking into an i7 so appreciate the news of the newer model.

Appreciate the news Solin, those Sandy CPU's have had a great success, since the stable release.. im using the older version the i7-960 x58 before the release of Sandy Bridge and to be honest apart from keeping an eye on temps it's outstanding..
I think Intel plan to plug any holes in the market and this is a good thing for us. i look foreward to the reviews of the latest releases.

Thansk for the news solin. I have the i5 540 in my laptop and have no complaints about its performance.

They call these upgrades?
Eek... my i5 is clocked higher and once again, cache is only SLIGHTLY smaller then what they have offered. Makes me really wonder.

The i5 in my laptop doesn't even come close to the same specs as the i5 in my PC. Don't know for sure, but it might have something to do with the heat generated by the higher performance chips. I know my laptop runs much hotter than my PC even with the lower performance chip.

Most likely poor design/air circulation.

Well that may be, but the design of a laptop is such, that it isn't going to run as cool as a decently designed case for a PC.

Intel are trying hard to reduce the amount of heat by dropping the voltage through the cores, i have seen the Sanybridge stable at 5.0 Ghz on air, at the most i have gone 4.2 on my own.. The dell laptop runs fairly cool the acer you could cook on it... the pc sucks diesel as they say in Ireland..

Laptop CPUs are specifically designed with energy consumption and heat generation in mind. Most manufacturers are concerned with warranty issues, so they want to be sure that heat is kept as low as possible. A Guy
