Suggest a SMPS
Hey guys,
well I have following PC config
Motherboard-MSI P7NGM Digital
CPU-Intel Core2Duo E7300 2.66 GHz
GPU-Nvidia Geforce 9800GT 512MB
Memory-2x 2GB DDR2 (Total 4GB)
HDD-Seagate 1TB
Seagate 500GB
DVD Writer-Samsung 22x SH-S223F SATA
Chassis-Cooler Master Elite 330
2x 120mm fans
Use my PC for Heavy Gaming, Video Editing etc
I previously used Corsair CX600 V2 SMPS.....gone dead 2 times in just few months.....so replaced.
Basically have no trust on CX series now.
So looking at my config....which SMPS(and of how much watts) would you guys suggest me. I am not good with those watts and AMPs stuff :P
Will the Corsair VX450 is enough for me?? or something in same budget.
Thanks in advance

Use this yourself and find out. I'd recommend Seasonic or Antec, stay away from Corsair myself.

Cooler Master power supply has been powering my desktop for nearly 5 years already and no problems so far.

I have a Coolermaster 650 watt PSU in my old PC that is 5 years old now and still runs well. I also bought a Coolermaster 1000 watt for my new PC and haven't any problems with it at all. Other than that, check out the wattage caculator that hellnoire posted and use that as a guideline for how much power you need.

Just found out that both Cooler Master and Thermaltake Power Supple Calculator is based on "eXtreme Power Supply Calculator".

Personally i would go for Corsair VX450 or VX550 depending on the power consumption of your system
you can also go for Seasonic PSUs which are quite good (Tirupati handles RMA)
the newer Corsair CX (builder) series are next to crap so stay away from them
i would recommend you do a fair bit of research in http://www.jonnyguru.com/
they are the place to go for detailed info

Thanks for reply guys
Well used the Calculator. Result was
coolermaster
323w
thermaltake
308w
So if I go for a good 450w smps....will it be ok??
And my dead Corsair CX600 is still in Warranty.......so am planing to somehow get a replacement with either Corsair or other brand if possible. I know its kind of hard to get replacement for other...but still whats wrong in trying :P
Let see.....thanks again guys...will update later

Looks like it should work just fine for you.
When I ran the calculator for my new PC, it recommended 750 watts, but I spent a little bit more and went with a 1000 watts, so I would have plenty of power for any future hardware upgrades.

no it doesn't really work as simple as that
among other things
you have to check the power required by your GPU and
see if your prospective purchase has the correct +12v line strength to complement it
i will say it again do your fair bit of research,
there are plenty of helpful article in the netz
