New piece of hardware for PC
Well guys, I bought a Thermaltake BlacX 5G ST0019U ABS Plastic 2.5" & 3.5" Black USB 3.0 Docking Station for the PC today and I plan to use it with my WD 1Tb SATA III HDD.
I was wondering if anyone else had tried something like this and what read/write speeds I can expect with it. So far, I haven't had any hardware that utilizes USB 3.0 so it is uncharted territory for me.
Hopefully it will work as advertised.

The good news is, speeds seem to be around the same as if you plug into a sata port (110-120MB/s).
The not so good news is, the user reviews at newegg are less than glowing about the dock and speeds seem to differ quite a bit depending which USB 3 chipset you have.

I kinda want to get a docking station, though I've got a SATA one on top of my case.
Also, resized your text so I could actually read it. Font 1 at 8 in the morning isn't nice...

Hey Uncle Bear, I hope it works well, because I would like to buy one myself if it does.

@ hal Yes, I read those reviews myself. But since the dock was only $41 and free shipping, I figured I would try it out for myself. I have had a Thermaltake SATA dock for about 5 years now and it has been very dependable.
@ hellnoire Ah, I'll bet when I copied the description of the dock from my confirmation E-mail, the body of my post used that same font. Sorry about that. It was late last night, at least for me
, and I didn't even notice. I will let you know how it works, in case you are interested.
@ BigBuy Yeah, its the same dock I was telling you about on the lake the other day. If it works well, I will let you know.

I am indeed, though I am interested in finding something to work with Linux...
motherboard and CPU would be nice...

I knew about the motherboard issue, but I thought your i5 cpu was sufficient to run Linux? Mine most certainly does a great job. Or are you are just ready for something more powerful?

Motherboard and/or CPU is blocking the install of Linux, since the RAM is fine apparently.

Interesting. I was able to install Arch with no problem on my new PC running an i5 and an Asus MB. Good luck figuring out the problem.

OEM motherboard here... I might need to invest in an ASUS one.
