Five years sounds good to me. It will take me that long to save up for a new one.

Bugs and BIOS issues aside, the skt 775 Asus I've just retired has lasted me 4 years and for half that time the Q6600 CPU had been overclocked by 50% to 3.6Ghz. It really owes me nothing and can have a rest in it's box 'til I find a use for it again....

My 6 year old PC has an Intel skt 775 with the Q6700 cpu and it is still running great. I didn't really need to build a new PC last summer, but I enjoy being able to keep up with the technology. Of course there is the speed issue. Nothing like a SATA III SSD to spoil a person!

Hal, I had the asus and asrock boards you suggested bookmarked already because they looked pretty good. I added that one gigabyte board to my bookmarks. I had always used Asus boards up until this last build. I did have issues with the drivers a few times which is why I thought I would try this eVga board out. 750i SLI FTW.

It has held up pretty good but I am just upset that they stopped supporting it. The latest drivers and bios are from 2009...sigh. If I had to do it all over again, My choice would be different, but you know Hindsight is 20/20.

Hey Bear, I only dream of sata III on my system Three years = eons in the computer world I guess

Well, he should be deciding on a case soon, which will let me know which way to go with the motherboard, but I still think we will end up with a micro atx because he wants a small case.

Thanks again to all and I might be asking one or two more questions before I'm finished

I know what you mean. My new PC is only 6 months old and it is already outdated!

Since I added an SSD to my new PC, it runs much faster than my SATA III HDD.
