he guys..!!!
me gonna buy a laptop for myself...just wanna know whether i should opt for an AMD Turion X2 or a Core2Duo frm pentium?????
i have always been a die hard AMD fan..the reason being..its performance..it does not give you higher clock speeds..and i strongly believe that a 2GB RAM can give me the juice i need :)
i have used three PCs till now..my first PC had AMD Athlon XP 2200+ 1.8GHz, 384MB RAM(128+256)@ 333MHz.
second PC had a P4 with HT technology 3.06GHz, 512MB RAM @ 533MHz...in built ATI Radeon express 200 graphics.
and the third PC has a Pentium D 2.8GHz, 512MB RAM @ 533MHz.
Now, while using all three i found that my older PC with AMD performs much better than the pentiums.....i wasnt lucky enough to try out the AMD dual core giants :(
Guys wat r your opinion on this ??? need all your help.

This is MY opinion. I used to be a hardcore AMD fan because of the "speed" that's faster than Intel. I never cared about the stability. Then my AMD machine crashed a lot due to overheating.
Now, I am all out for Intel. Speed? After a year, speed doesn't matter anymore because there will be faster processor out there. Stability is more important than speed.
Just my 2 cents.
P/S: AMD hardcore fans, please don't take this to heart because the debate will go on non-stop :P

coming to speed and stability...i never happened to come across system hangs and failures..ya while using pentium i find myself usin the magic keys (ctrl+alt+del) very often :(
Ray have u used a core2duo based lap yet? do tell me about its performance :)

I am an AMD fan, and I agree with raymond on some parts. but my AMD has never crashed. And I don't want to argue. ;)

Core 2 Duo is an all around better processor than an AMD Turion X2. But the Turion X2 is better than the Core Duo. I am a hardcore AMD fan, but as it stands right now, Intel's best (unforturnately) is better than AMD's best (concerning laptop processors).
EDIT: Oh, and hellborne, you mentioned the AMD dual-core desktop processors? DEY ARE DA SH!T MAN!!!!!

I have a 4200 x2, no fx-64...yet...Im just gonna wait until they come out with the true quad core, 4 single processors baby oh yeah!

well guys...u might know that AMD launched the first true Dual core processors as AMD 64... and AMD topped intel for the last three years:) considering both, the performance front and the sales front...its not my "find out"..I.T magazines CHIP and DIGIT rated AMD Athlon 64 as number one for the past three years..and pentium was nowhere to be seen :( and believe me AMD 64 really ruled among desktop processors.
pentium was nowhere durin those periods..and now they are out with core2duo and their quadcore..and now they top AMD...
AMD is definitely gonna fight back with their quadcore "BARCLEONA" :)) they r gonna launch it in mid 2007...anyhow they have started shipping their 4x4 processors..that is two dualcores in a single motherboard plan..lets see if they outperform intels quadcore...
dont worry woody AMD has never disappointed anyone :) AMD based dual cores for desktops are still outperforming the intel counterparts.

It was like 7 years ago when my AMD crashed a lot. That time I don't have money to buy a good cpu fan, thermal paste, aluminum casing and etc... That's why that bloody AMD crashed! LOL! Even my computer knowledge back then was... crappy.
So don't take my words for real since I am comparing 7 years ago and now. Heh

dude if ur a hardcore gamer i would strongly suggest the amd processor but if u just like to use a computer the way the world does then its intel dude ,thats what i feel .AMD is awesome for graphics though, intel is just as good .so its upto u to decide ,ive used both and there is quite a difference but what ray said is true ,OVERHEATING ........... u may need to put some extra fans in ur CPU....lol.
