This is a desktop Sony Vaio with a 200 GB HD, 180 after operating system. It shows I have only 71 GB left and I just do not have that many programs on it. A while back I used system commander by VCOM so I could add linux on a separate partition, but it instead landed on the same partition and erased the hard drive! I restored with the Sony Vaio recovery disks I made and followed the steps provided by VCOM to remove system commander from my computer which I did and messed everything up again! I went through recovery again to get it back to normal but now I am missing a lot of space. I am sure I am using less than 40 GB and do not store a lot of files on that computer. I went to control panel>administrative tools> disk management But I see no extra partitions. I am scratching my head on this one. I would really appreciate any ideas to the cause of my missing space.

Maybe you formatted the linux partition into the EXT3 file system, which isn't (i don't think) recognized by Windows. Click Start, and then click Control Panel. Click "Performance and Maintenance", click "Administrative Tools", and then double-click "Computer Management." Then Click on "Disk Management." You will see something in a square that says, "Disk 0." Next to it, it will show you if your disk is still partitioned. Post back and tells us what you see.

Thanks for the reply woody. I did that and it shows only c and d drives of normal size.

Thank You Raymond. I downloaded the file tree and ran it (this was new to me!) and I have 95GB in my Documents and Settings! Opps! I thought I really cleaned that out, but I did have an enormous collection of videos, pics and applications. That solves my problem. Thank you and I always look forward to your tips in the e-mails. Top notch!

I suppose it was this at the bottom of your post:
"I'm sure this makes sense to you in your microcosm of an existence where everyone knows what forum on whatever website you're talking about, but for the rest of us who don't have a telekinetic link to your brain stem, do us a favor and die."

Guess it is a signature or something. Sorry, thought it was for me. Anyway thanks for the post also. To all that posted , thank you. It really helped. I thought I deleted projects from DVDFab and Roxio DVD Creator, but it did not delete the files which were hidden in folders within the programs. I am happy to say I am at 88% free space now! That tree size is a terrific free tool which I will add to my arsenal. I work on a lot of computers for people around this area and this will come in handy. Thanks again to everyone.
