DVD-Rom acting weird

Hello dudes,

My laptop Dvd rom has'nt been working for some time (abt 1 yr now), BUT just now I (being aimless)
decided to chuck in a dvd in the rom. AND I GOT A SHOCK, it actually read something!!! but it recogniesd the dvd as a audio disk and show only a audio file which was 44 kb.

The prob with the rom is that when i put a disk in, it spins and I can hear a sound ...as if the disk was touching somthing while it spins.

What do you think guys?
Is my rom fixable?

lol, must be a lolly inside your dvd drive. (kidding).
You heard the sound coming from your drive? maybe your drive read a cd at a high speed, you can set the setting to control the reading speed.. if i can remembered, i know that nero does it

if it sounds like its hitting something it prolly is being its a laptop maybe somewhere along the road it got jarred and something popped you could take it out and open it up and look for anything out of place but you mite as well go buy you a new one their not to pricey

yea , it does sound like something is loose inside. But i dont know how to take it out and open it up (and i dnt intend to).
could you just give me a rough estimate of a 16x DVD rewriter?

Oh no. I think you might have mistaken me. Mine is a laptop dvd rom.
(I was really happy when read the '24$', but was disappointed when I visited the site :( lol)

Anyway, I just found a site, and dammm those things arent cheap!

Have you ever tried using Sata/IDE to USB adaptors?
Im thinking maybe I can remove the dvd rom and test it on other computers. (just a thought, im not good with hardwares and stuff)

It's possible but I don't know how to remove the DVD rom from my laptop.

thats a good idead pending you can get it out of the pc plus those things arnt that pricy
