Ever wondered why when you buy an HDD marked 300Gb and your PC marks its capacity is less (eg 293Gb) even if it's empty?
Here's why:
HDD manufacturers like Sony and all the others calculate the space as 1000 bytes = 1kb, 1000kb = 1mb, 1000mb = 1gb and so on.
But Windows does not. Its calculation is 1024bytes = 1kb and so on.
The missing space comes from the missing 24 of each byte. These companies spend less money using that method and it's straight forward

One kb is 1024 bytes. It is a function of binary, upon which computers understand, and need to operate. If you start with ONE, and double it, then double it....etc. you will arrive at 1024. Each time you add a bit to a binary number, it doubles the possible numbers which can be expressed with that number of bits. Simple binary, but it is the ONLY language that computers can understand. It's either a 0 (zero) or it's a 1 (one) - - - it's either ON or OFF. A computers brain is quite simple. It's the programmers and languages who are charged with converting code into 0's and 1's so that the simpleton CPU can understand it.
Mankind hates what it fears, and fears what it cannot understand.
Therefore, hatred is a by-product of ignorance!

What is the point of this topic? I fail to see it, heh.

That's good knowledge. I've seen some government network admin doesn't even know this!
